PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT, AIA, NCARB
Michael Dammeyer, AIA, is studioDAM’s Founder and Principal Architect with over 15 years of experience in the industry. He established the firm in 2021 to continue his pursuit of translating the profound problem that is Architecture into stunning results. He has developed principles of design and materiality to make studioDAM’s work some of the most unique and site-sensitive projects in the surrounding area.
“I strive to create Architecture for my clients that the project site embraces not just accepts. This mentality allows the design to fit seamlessly into the landscape and removes the barriers between the built and the natural. This results in more responsible Architecture and a heightened sense of place for the end-user and bystander.”
Michael’s passion for architecture was born out of his love for music and mathematics.
“Whether it was creating music or extending the chalkboard with a calculus problem there was always a common denominator that fed my creativity: movement and order. I’m a big believer the most successful projects are not only beautiful but that beauty is derived by calculated order. I come from an artistic family, but I couldn’t leave my technical side behind. In Architecture, I’ve found a home for both.”
During his apprenticeships, Michael worked for multiple notable firms such as Moore Ruble Yudell in Santa Monica and Perkins + Will in Chicago. He considers these experiences to be his essential building blocks as a designer. He gained experience working on a variety of projects from U.S. Embassies to skyscraper tenant improvements.
In addition to majoring in Architecture at the University of Cincinnati, Michael also holds a Master’s Degree in Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where we completed his award-winning thesis studies on Building Envelope Thermal Strategies. He is a registered Licensed Architect in California and plans to expand his licensure nationally in the coming years. Michael enjoys living on the Central Coast of California and is proud to have his projects mesh into the beautiful landscapes. Michael resides in San Luis Obispo with his wife, two sons, and energetic Australian Shepherd.
